Our Mission: To delay or prevent inappropriate or unnecessary nursing home admission of severely functionally
impaired seniors and disabled adults.
Our History: Visiting Nurse Association of Central Florida, Inc. d/b/a Community Care for the Elderly, was established in Orange and Seminole counties in 1980 after the State of Florida passed legislation to help with the increasing number of older adults needing assistance. The legislature enacted the Community Care for the Elderly Act and funding was appropriated to measure the cost effectiveness of providing the frail elderly with community based in-home services rather than placement in a nursing home or assisted living facility. The tremendous success of this project resulted in the Act becoming a statewide program in 1979 and thus the beginning of Community Care for the Elderly in Central Florida.
Who We Are: Enhanced by local donations, VNA of Central Florida, Inc./Community Care for the Elderly provides
in-home services that contribute to the well being of individuals as well as the community we serve. Everyone who applies for
help is assessed based on a state-developed assessment tool. Waiting lists are prioritized according to need. Clients who are
not charged a fee are encouraged to donate toward the cost of their care.
By helping the elderly stay in their own homes, VNACF/CCE saves taxpayers significant dollars each year. Through government
funding and local donations, VNACF/CCE's annual costs for in-home care are a fraction of what is spent for nursing home care.
Funding: VNACF/CCE receives funding/support from Heart of Florida United Way, Florida Department of
Children & Families, Florida Department of Elder Affairs, VNA Foundation, Joseph G. Markoly Foundation, First United
Methodist Church of Winter Park, Wal-Mart, Orlando Sentinel Family Fund, Orange County Government, Seminole County
Government, as well as private individuals and local businesses.
